In the modern world, the issues that directly linked to the technological advancement has increased — it became a global problem. The problem of large-scaled cybercrime making people worried about their privacy. At this point, some people believe that the rising rate of cybercrime is the price that people must pay for advanced technology.
The cybercrime in virtual environment has became a crucial problem of many people that struggling with a lack of cybersecurity awareness. But blaming technology itself for cybercrime oversimplify the issue. Advanced tools such as cloud storage, online banking, or smart devices ar e not basically dangerous. They become vulnerable when users fail to take proper precautions — leaving footprints, being fished by trackers and hackers. For example, many people uses weak passwords, ignore security warnings, or don’t update their softwares. These behaviours create opportunities for hackers, but they are not caused by technology — it is the people who neglect with basic digital hygiene. If users had digital accountability and educated about cybersecurity, many acts of cybercrime could have been avoided.
Secondly, governments and organisations also plays a key role in the rise of cyber threats. In many countries, there are insufficient laws and enforcement to deal with online crimes. Meanwhile, some companies collect data from their client base, to sell them for third-party. This kind of carelessness increase the chance of data breach. Instead of saying that cybercrime is the cost of technological progress, we should say it is the result of failing to adapt to that progress. Proper regulation and training campagnes are often missing, which makes the cyber space more convinienced for exploitation.
