Some people argue that watching television is detrimental for kids in many ways, while others suggest acquiring knowledge from television provides numerous benefits for them. In this following essay both aspects will be examined objectively before submitting my personal views.
First and foremost, excessive television usage can have an adverse impact on children’s physical health. This is attributed to the fact that due to the cutting edge of technological devices, children have a tendency to adopt a sedentary lifestyle, which causes some health issues such as diabetes and obesity. A s a result, if they watch television excessively, it can weaken their overall well-being. For instance, some nations, including Vietnam and Thailand, are encouraging children to engage in outdoor activities instead of watching television. Therefore, overdependence on TV can bring numerous drawbacks to children.
However, using television effectively can help children improve their academic performance at school. This is rooted in the fact that when watching some programmes, combining theoretical knowledge and practical skills, helps them grasp knowledge quickly. Consequently, some children always watch education programmes, which help them gain high results in comparison with children who excessively rely on TV for other purposes. For example, in many developed countries such as the USA and the UK, children are encouraged to watch many practical programmes to stimulate their imagination, thereby improving their life skills when participating in extracurricular activities at schools. Plus, using television moderately can bring a lot of advantages to children’s mental and physical health.
In conclusion, it is quite difficult to decide which point of view is sounder and more logical. However, from the previous discussion, I am convinced to assert that watching television can offer both benefits and drawbacks.
