Certain individuals believe that in order to take up a new sport, it is suitable to own newly-launched and updated sports accessories. Others, however, do not deem this as a necessity. In my opinion, both perspectives are equally significant for developing skills related to a particular sport.
On the one hand, many are in favour of the former opinion for a handful of reasons. To begin with, having access to such gear facilitates proper training for beginners. In other words, there are several types of sports that demand constant upgradation of equipment to ensure that one’s level of speed and agility is improved. For instance, when my niece started swimming, her coach demanded her to purchase new swimming goggles to aid with the learning process. Another major reason behind this is that it contributes towards boosting one’s morale. Buying a brand-new kit serves as positive reinforcement which, in turn, motivates an individual to perform better.
On the other hand, a substantial number of people oppose this notion. Many belonging to low-income families cannot afford high-end products, yet this does not stop them from participating in sports. As a result, they resort to using borrowed and second-hand equipment and this does not undermine their performance. MC Mary Kom, for example, who is an Indian Olympic boxer comes from an economically weak family who, initially, struggled to cater to basic needs. She, however, continued to pursue her dream and has earned international success. Furthermore, it is believed that excelling in a sport requires consistent efforts and talent regardless of the condition of the equipment.
In conclusion, based on the abovementioned points, it is evident that both perspectives are valid and acceptable. The decision to buy advanced gear depends on one’s choice entirely, and is not mandatory.
