In some nations, people believe it is important to spend huge amount of money on constructing trails for rapid trains to connect urban hubs while others argue that the money should be spent on improving already existing means of transport. In my opinion, the countries should focus on maintaining its existing public commutations as creating new railway tracks would cost a fortune and they will bring significant impacts on the environment.
To begin with, many people believe the country should invest in bullet trains to connect cities because in this fast paced world speed is the key to success. If people are able to travel long distance in a short amount of time, it will drastically improve the productivity of the nation. However, in my opinion it should not be the case as investing on new infrastructure would cost huge sum of capital which will be paid by tax payers. Furthermore, railways are notorious for being danger for the environment because it requires a lots of digging and cutting down of trees to make way for its track. To give an example, in India after the government passed the bill to establish railway lines for fast trains, around 30 million trees were cut down and a whole mountain had to be cleared off to make way for its construction.
On the other hand, others argue the country should invest on already existing infrastructures for its improvement because we already have a very fast way to commute in the form of airplanes. Many countries already have fully functioning airports which can help people transport from one place to another. If the government invest on improving its services and make it accessible for everyone, there will be no need for taking additional financial burden to make bullet trains. I completely agree with this viewpoint because airplanes are better for the environment as compared to new railway tracks as it does not require deforestation in the large scale. Similarly, it also save a huge amount of money because the cost of maintaining an already established air field will not be as high as investing on a railway projects. For instance, when a project for establishing new lines for trains was proposed in the parliament of Nepal, it was overruled due to being extremely costly and a plan for renovations of 5 different air ports of the country was passed by the stakeholders as it did not cost as much.
In conclusion, although, many people prefer the establishment of new tracks for fast paced trains so that the productivity of the country could be boosted, some people argue against this policy because of its high cost and negative impacts on the environment. In my opinion, all the nations in the world should focus on improving the already existing infrastructures because renovation rather than reconstruction is more eco-friendly as well as cheaper.
