Defining success is very difficult, especially due to the diverse population. Some individuals think that it should be defined by a person’s net worth, while others argue that happiness and satisfaction are better determinants of success. Both views, along with my inclination will be discussed in further paragraphs.
Firstly, the modern competitive age requires a person to be wealthy and famous. The society tends to respect those in power. Societal influence and power are a byproduct of money and fame. An individual with enormous wealth is usually considered hardworking and talented. Due to increasing competition, it is very difficult to attain success. Hence, those with money and power are always looked up by people. Moreover, wealth and possessions improve quality of life. Compared to underprivileged individuals, those with money are living a luxurious and healthy lifestyle.
Satisfaction and happiness, on the other hand, are very crucial. Since these emotions comes from within, they are very critical for success. When people are satisfied and happy with their deeds, they tend to enjoy their life more. They are in perfect state of mind. Living a peaceful life is more important than living a hectic life. For example, religious gurus are often admired by individuals for their knowledge and way of life. This minimalistic approach and respect of people allows them to live a successful life.
In my opinion, wealth and material possessions can be used to quantify success as they allow people to pursue their own way of life. In addition to this, wealth and money can also be utilized for betterment of society and families. These are also good motivators for the younger generation to thrive in their career and contribute to global development.
To conclude, money and wealth can determine an individual’s standing in the society and also can be a good motivator for the upcoming generation but, satisfaction and happiness are also important for mental health and success.
