In today’s contemporary society, the importance of accommodation for living and working has attracted significant public interest. Some people argue that people should reside and get occupations in a vertical city, which has tall infrastructures, while others believe that living in a horizontal city is superior. This essay will address both perspectives and present my own viewpoint.
On the one hand, settling in high buildings offers significant benefits in terms of having full amenities and prices. Pools, convenience stores and coffee shops are readily available for individuals who live in apartments. Moreover, many areas have numerous international schools for families with young children. It is not only convenient to pick up their children, but also not time-consuming for them. For instance, Vietnam apartment buildings which are called Saigon Pearl, have numerous famous coffee shops such as Starbucks and Highlands, which are downstairs in the lobby of buildings. Besides, they have 2 international schools inside in order for adolescents to easily go to study. Additionally, residing in flats is more inexpensive than living in underground houses. Land prices are increasing, and flats are suitable for dwellers who do not have enough money.
On the other hand, it is beneficial for residents to live in a horizontal city for a few financial and security reasons. Firstly, living lower to the ground is safer for inhabitants when emergencies occur. If a fire starts in the home, they can quickly escape from dangerous areas as the building is not too high off the ground and it will not take much time to leave like living in high-rise buildings. Furthermore, they do not have to pay rent every month. They only need to pay a huge amount of money at first, then they do not have to pay any costs for houses or building services, except water and electric fees.
In conclusion, while residing in a horizontal city does have many significant benefits, I strongly advocate that living in a city with skyscrapers is a greater choice.
