There is a debate on the importance of advertising in economic issues and its potential impacts of on the society. A group of people argue that advertising is a crucial factor in developing economy, meanwhile, others believe that advertisements negatively affect the public. My personal position is closer to the second attitude.

On the one hand, considering the fact that people are constantly exposed to different types of advertisements, they are undoubtedly affected by advertising, even though they are not consciously aware of this effect. Furthermore, companies, in their advertisements normally focus on what people lack, thus the chance of their sales increases. As a result, individuals’ exposure to what they do not possess in their lives makes them feel unpleasant and think that their possessions are not adequate. Hence, they are likely to purchase more products to be satisfied. This approach causes people to be involved with consumerism and its destructive consequences such as wasting a considerable amount of money on buying unnecessary goods rather than spending their income wisely. An important point of this issue is that this phenomenon may be unconscious and individuals might not even notice such negative effects.

On the other hand, it is not the significant role advertising play on economy should not be underestimated. Advertising is one of the most effective strategies companies adopt to keep influence their clients. In this way, people are more likely to purchase products and thus, assist the economy of their country.

In conclusion, while advertising can have positive impacts on economy, it can be dangerous for the society and lead to destructive cultures among the public. Therefore, noticing the negative consequences advertising could cause, it should be regulated by the governments.
