Some feel that the effects of advertising are positive for individuals and businesses, while others think they are negative. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.
People have opposing views about whether the effects of advertisements are positive or negative on people and enterprises. In my opinion, the influence individuals and companies get from advertising varies depending on its quality and intention, which makes the process of judgment a complicated task that requires individual approach.
If the advertisements are of a good quality, they generally yield positive results for both companies and people who watch them. When a company employs advertising agents that are able to put enough effort and thought, and subsequently produce high quality ads, the impact of the ad might work wonders for the company and positively affect viewers. Coca Cola advertisements, for instance, are well thought-out, entertaining, and mostly have a theme of union among different races or relatives, which, in turn, generate high sales for the company, encouraging unity of people simultaneously. In this specific case, despite the encouragement of core human values ads might bring, negative effects on health should also be considered, as being healthy is one of the highest priorities people should set. Moreover, persuasive, false advertisements might pose big issues, as,by the means of manipulative tactics, they persuade consumers to buy an item that they do not have an actual need for or simply a bad product that does not meet the expectation promised in the ad.
On the other hand, poor quality ads usually end up having negative effects on both people and businesses. The impact of an advert that is not given enough consideration and done irresponsibly can be seen through the failure in capturing the attention of the customers and possibly through the hate people develop towards the company and their products. A clear example of this might be the advertising strategy that Bud Light applied, making their general customer base hate the company because of the political agenda they tried to push. If people are surrounded by advertisements that influence negative emotions, those emotions might spread through other areas of their lives, and possibly hinder them from having open-minded, meaningful, and valuable conversations that could clearly make their life more fulfilling.
In conclusion, judging whether the impact of any advertisement is positive or negative for viewers and companies is a process which should be done in an individual and nuanced manner, as the factors of quality and intent behind it plays a crucial role.
