Band 7+: Some people believe that alcohol should be considered as a drug and made illegal. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Numerous people think that drinks containing alcohol should be banned and considered as an illicit drug. This essay totally agrees with this ideology because consuming alcohol is unhealthy to humans and restricting it will decrease alcohol related diseases.

To begin with, it is widely known that consuming alcohol has some hazardous substances that harm the human body. That is to say, drinks that contain alcohol are considered toxic to our human body due to the fact that they possess strong chemicals that could kill microorganisms such as bacteria and even to some extent human cells. For instance, in hospitals one way to sterilize surgical instruments is by using alcohol, because it has power to kill pathogens and since human cells share similarities with them, therefore if alcohol is ingested, it could damage some cells in digestive organs.

Furthermore, by banning alcohols and labeling them as a drug, they will indirectly reduce alcohol-related diseases among the population. In other words, beer and wine are one of the major risk factors for many common diseases such as cancer, liver failure and many more. This is because there are some chemicals in alcohol that are poisonous to the human body, and cutting them down will eventually decrease some illnesses that are primarily caused by alcohol. For instance, liver problems are very common in the US and European countries because they consume huge quantities of beers and white wines frequently.

To conclude, due to the adverse effect alcohol poses, numerous individuals including me believe that they should be banned and labeled as illicit drugs because they are simply bad to the human body and this approach will make the population healthier because it decreases some diseases that are caused by alcohol.
