Band 7+: Some people believe that certain old buildings should be preserved more than others. What types of old buildings should be preserved? Do you think the advantages of preserving old buildings outweigh the disadvantages?

It is argued that some specific old buildings are more essential to protect than others. Personally, I believe that the government should preserve historical buildings or cultural buildings, which are more tangible records of people’s special events. In my opinion, the benefits of preserving these old buildings outweigh the drawbacks for the reasons below.

Initially, there are a lot of old buildings that bring more value to people’s lives, especially historical buildings and some cultural architecture. These buildings are closely associated with some vital historical events, which are irreplaceable memories of the past, as well as opportunities for people to learn about their ancestors and the culture behind them. For instance, the Hue Imperial Citadel is one of the famous historical sites, where many important historical events in Vietnam took place and also shows attractive architecture for local citizens and even foreign tourists.

Moreover, there are a lot of advantages to preserving these buildings. Due to the increased interest in exploring more about culture and history when travelling; hence, some historical architecture has financial value in the country’s tourism. For example, Hoi An Ancient Town is a place that has a lot of impressive traditional landmarks and displays some historical stories that attract tourists when they visit Vietnam. Besides, these historical buildings play an important role in teaching young people about the past and help them have more interactive experiences with some historical events. It also reminds young people about the great sacrifices of previous generations, which can boost youngsters’ patriotism. Consequently, some particular buildings contain a lot of stories behind them that bring more value to people nowadays.

To sum up, although not all buildings deserve to be protected, some of them are essential for the country’s economic growth and also educate young people about the past effectively. Personally, I extremely believe that preserving some specific buildings is more beneficial.
