Most of the time, children are allowed to choose how they want to spend their leisure time, but occasionally, teachers and parent encourage them so participate in group activities. I personally believe that they should have the freedom to choose, since the main point of free time is to relax.
Playing and working on projects together with their pears can help children develop communication skills. They also learn to share resources available to them such as toys, their playground, and even information. This will motivate them to get a better outcome by socializing and work in groups to. For instance, by organizing students in groups, teachers in the past, were able to get a better outcome while giving out assignments to their classes.
With that being said, dectating what and how children do to spend their free time can result in them lossing interest and feeling like they have no authonomy. This is because their interest is vastely different from that of teachers and parents; therefore, they will start exhibit bad behaviours like screaming, throwing things, and overall not participating. One example of this is parents who try to force their kids to play educational games. Most of the time, this will result in the children rejecting the game and fighing with their parent.
Therefore, despite the advantages that group activities can bring, I believe children’s free time should not be regulated by adults.
