Some people are of the opinion that companies should recruit innovative people and have the ability to work independently; however, some are opine that they should hire people who can work in a team and follow instructions. Although both views hold merit, I agree more with the latter perspective.
It is believed that quality is always better than quantity, a creative individual always knows how to utilize their duty in the fastest way. Bill Gates – the founder of Microsoft once said he would rather recruit a lazy, smart man rather than a man with hard work and obey the guide, because that smart man will know how to optimize the time, and the effort he needs to put into it. They will know the way that typically person will never think about, and these guys are not really keen on working in a big group, they seems to do everything on their own because he would outpace everyone in it, the rest of the team who can not keep track with their tasks would hold the whole team behind. However, these individuals often have high ego, in some specific circumstances, they seem not to listen to anyone, any opinions, and are then being isolated by his colleagues, leading to a depressing atmosphere in the office, decreasing the motivation of officers here.
In contrast, more people which means that a bigger quantity of work can be processed at one time. For example, a project in rush phase will have a massive duty that requires their employees to work at all their potential, maybe even they will have to work overtime just to keep pace with the goals of the company. A big company with lots of plans will also have a big capacity of employees, and the harmony in how they collaborate with others will directly affect on the success of that corporation. They will not just work with one, or two members, but that number sometimes up to a hundred. At this time, individuals who are not suitable for the team will immediately be discarded to preserve the track on the progress. In addition, people who understand and follow the instructions of leaders tend to make fewer mistakes than those who do not. Eventually, no dramatically huge problems can occur, and will also reduce the risk for the companies.
In conclusion, while individuals with creativity and high independence are valuable, their attribution compared to people who have the ability to work together with colleagues and obey the instructions from their boss. Although now I am more on the side of the former person, I will take steps to learn teamwork skills.
