People argue that whether competing or cooperating with each other is better for students’ overall development. Personally, I think both competition and cooperation are good for students, some will be suited to competition, others may enjoy cooperating. However, the real issue is not whether schools should support students’ development by competing or collaborating, but whether competition or collaboration can help students do their best.
Indeed, both in school and in society, competing can help people improve not only their academic performance but also their practical skills, it boosts motivation and encourages self-improvement. Because no one want to fall behind, the widespread of outstanding person forces students to try their best, study continually to prepare for real life and also survive in the job market. A student who engages in a competition tend to push his self beyond his limit. He will no longer delay since he notices that it’s time to dedicate his time to expanding his knowledge, therefore, his perform is better than ever before. So, a competitive learning environment wakes up student full potential, provided that they can learn from mistakes and study under pressure.
Nevertheless, collaborating with classmate and friends is equally important, many problems can not be solved without more than one person, and of course, one individual cannot do anything without collaborating with others. There are a lot of issues which need people to communicate back and forth to find ideal explanation, especially in teamwork. When students work in groups, it is always easier to share their own ideas with others, and also, they can learn from their friends, their teammate, it is much more motivated than studying alone or under pressure. Consequently, they can improve their reasoning power, enhance communication skills. For this reason, school should provide students more opportunities to collaborate with another more frequently.
In conclusion, some students will prefer to compete while others are interested in cooperating. Schools should explore and provide students ideal way to learn, enable them to persuade their dream. However, we should remember our finally goal is to help young people improve both academically and personally
