People have different views about whether examinations or some forms of continuous assessment are suitable to assess the performance of students. While I agree that testing is a vital aspect in school, I strongly believe that constinuous assessment is equally important to a well-rounded education.
It is true that one of the keys to assessing learners is through exams. To begin with, testing gives a clear and objective measurement of what students have learnt each term in school, which can measure their knowledge acquisition and assess their academic incline. This allows teachers to have a deeper understanding of their students’ ability and give the proper methods to each learners. Another reason worth mention is that examinations can be a great competitive playground for students, as they need to put a great deal of efforts to come on top. Meanwhile, it also encourages individuals to try hard and to reward the top students after diligent studying. In addition, not only the feeling of becoming a winner may lead to personal fulfilment but also making their loved ones proud of them.
Nevertheless, I would argue that continuous assessment is play a crucial role in education system. Chief among these is more pressure can be relieved, as students are judged by continuous assessment. Schoolchildren, for example, will be affected negatively if they feel stress and under-performed in exams; this might lead to anxiety and depression in the future. The second reason is that assessing learners continuously in some subjects such as IT and design can be beneficial because these subjects are more creative and less academic. With instant feedback, students are able to work hard on their specific ability, enhancing their skills more effectively .
In conlusion,While it is clear that traditional exams in school is greatly important, I am of the opinion that continuous assessment cannot be lacked in education system because of its potential benefits
