Some people believe that protecting the environment should be a top priority for governments. Others think that economic growth is more important. Both beliefs make sense and both of them are not wrong. I’d like to discuss about how protecting both should be a top priority for governments.
Environment consists of not only us humans but also the complete ecosystem of animals and plants. It is our responsibility as part of the ecosystem to make efforts to protect it, as we are the ones contributing to its degrade the most with our industrial wastes. The governments can prioritise protecting the environment by enforcing good practices and making things like trash processing more strict such that the industries and people are not violating them. The governments must be able to introduce a system that streamlines these practices so that it is enforced more. We all know that Bengal tigers count has been decreasing through the years and the Indian government’s effort to protect the reserve forest and eradicate poaching is commendable. As a result in the recent years the Bengal tigers count is up. Hence by protecting the environment and making efforts as a part of the ecosystem we are protecting our planet and its inhabitants.
Economic growth is also important because it is progressing our society. It provides us with employement to feed our families and protects the trade to keep the government afloat. Without a good economic growth the society will collapse leading to famines, shortage of resources and loss of trade. The damage on the people will be very huge. The government can help with the growth by investing in education to shape the future generation and invest in industries and technology to enforce and protect businesses. The South Koreans invested extensively in education since 1960s which helped them push through in the industry of electronics and trade. It has helped to create employement for people and improved its tax revenue to invest in the industry actively. Hence to protect its people governments must invest in its economic growth.
I think that there must be a balance between the two. By protecting the environment we are protecting the people and the inhabitants of the planet. By concentrating on economic growth the government is able to protect the society from failing. The government must actively concentrate on improving both. In fact, they must strive for economic growth while protecting the environment. This combination would do the most good to the society and the environment alike.
As a result we are able to protect the environment and its ecosystem while concentrating on economic growth and protecting the society and its people.
