It is a common belief that the government should impose harsher laws on citizen selection of food with a view to combating sedentary eating habits. From my perspective, I agree with this opinion because choosing food and diet is purely based on nutrition and medical reasons, so the government should enforce new law in order to help the general health of the citizens.
There are many who think that it is the government’s responsibility to regulate people’s diets. They believe this would help to create a much healthier population and reduce the burdens that sickness and disease place on society. The over-consumption of addictive fast foods, soft drinks, and junk food, is proven to have a vast health related issue for both adults and toddlers, some of which may include diabetes, obesity, and chronic diseases. Therefore putting an immense weight in the healthcare system, as well as the economy in general, which the government is trying to fix. Furthermore, this widespread phenomenon could be fixed by just simply reducing the consumption of junk foods and increasing the amounts of healthy foods in people’s diets, leading to increased average lifespan and physical well-being.
There are several ways to prevent outbursts on obesity and chronic diseases just by applying new regulations. legislation detailing food consumption can bring some merits in some aspects. Indeed, the fact that the local authorities hinder the deleterious food advertisement from citizens, as well as put higher taxes on them, can limit their vast ramifications along with decreasing tremendously the over-consumption of addictive fast foods, soft drinks and junk food. As a result, this tendency will reduce the risk of contracting hazardous diseases such as obesity, diabetes or even cardiovascular disease among people and help them lead a healthy lifestyle.
In conclusion, eating is a hobby and everybody should have the right to choose their favorite sustenance, but by common sense, the government should interfere when necessary in order to secure the healthiness of individual.
