Currently, there is an ongoing debate about how to alleviate the traffic congestion and pollution in a most effective way. While some individuals advocate that the governments should ameliorate the infrastructure, others claim that allocating more money and efforts in public transportation is the ultimate solution. This essay will analyze both sides of the views as well as present my own opinion.
From one perspective, one prominent perceived gain of enhancing infrastructure is reducing the number of individuals’ vehicles on every road. To elaborate, due to the significant number of vehicles on a specific road, the governments may expand or build a new road. This, perpetually, may decrease the number of vehicles on every road, which alleviates the traffic jams issues. A prime example is the Cai Dam Street in Ha Long City. Since they started to expand the main road and build one more road next to it, the traffic problems such as traffic congestion were getting better.
Conversely, I maintain that it is more beneficial for the citizens to utilize more public transports than improving infrastructure. To begin with, public transports may contribute in minimizing the number of vehicles on road. To be specific, if there are more public transports such as buses, the residents would rather the buses than their individuals’ vehicles. The implication of this is that there will be less vehicles including cars or motorbikes on the roads, and the road will more spacious. Thus, the traffic congestions may decrease substantially. This could be exemplified by Hanoi City. In 2016, the governments encouraged their inhabitants to use the buses in lieu of their vehicles. After only 1 year, the city witnessed much less traffic jams than the years before. Furthermore, utilizing public transports may alleviate the air pollution. To make it clear, it is noticeable that in some nations, a plenty of CO2 footprints derived from the citizens’ vehicles. If the residents use the public transports, a tremendous number of vehicles will decrease considerably, reducing the amount of emissions derived from these vehicles. Hence, there may be an amelioration of the environments.
In conclusion, for the two aforementioned rationales, I presume that using more public transports is the best way to minimize the traffic congestion and pollution.
