Few individuals argue that torture should be made legal by the government in serious crimes such as terrorism and national security threats. In my opinion, I certainly agree with the given statement because punishment should be as severe as the crime to regulate the sense of guilt amongst the criminals and obtain the crucial information; moreover, illegal activities such as terrorist attacks are detrimental for the whole nation so the consequences of such acts should be equivalent to the severity such crimes.
To commence, extreme crimes, terrorism and national security threats are a scourge to law and order of the state. The individuals committing such heinous crimes, regardless of the reasons, should be cognizant of the consequences of their actions especially when national security is at stake. Stating that, government should take the necessary steps whether it is the accommodating torture in order to acquire the required information about their motives or the actual master mind behind such absurd crimes. For example, according to the articles published by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), use of extreme ends such as electric shocks and psychological torture , keeping in mind the ethical and human right implications, has yielded beneficial outcomes in spitting out the desired information from the culprits.
Probing further, terrorism, cyber security thefts, mass killing, vandalism and numerous other crimes should be crushed at gross root level as they have cost immense loss of precious lives, people are devoid of shelter and the government has to tackle severe financial constraints in reconstructing the buildings that have been destructed in these terrorist activities. Therefore, the punishments according to the law of the country should be profound enough to justify the losses and the repercussions of such law breaking acts should be made a lesson for the future wrong doers when they try to commit crimes. For instance, the crime statistics in the Unites States have declined to 29% followed by introducing potential punishments for criminal activities. Thus, in my point of view, I stand in favour of legalizing torture in such deleterious crimes.
On the flip side, when extreme punishments and torture are not brought under action, the criminals would be ignorant of the severity of their actions and the law of the state could easily be walked over, considering there isn’t any accountability of their actions. Consequently, the crimes might be normalized in the state and criminal cases could be surged massively.
In conclusion, keeping in view the advantages of legalizing torture and punishments of barbarity for tyrants are indispensable in terms of the fatal consequences of such crimes that the nation has to face. Furthermore, once tyrants are held strictly accountable of their actions, they become an epitome for others leading to avoidance in committing crimes in the future that tarnish the national security of the country.
