Many individuals are of the belief that History is undeniably a crucial subject that needs to be contained in educational programmes. Whereas others reckon that it had better be an optional one. Personally, I partly disagree with this statement based on some major reasons that are explained in this essay.
On the one hand, there are some drawbacks of History to be a compulsory subject in the teaching curriculum. First of all, in this day and age, a wide range of employers just look for workers who are capable of meeting their requirements on many experiences and skills excluding knowledge about History. Thus, this can plunge the opportunities for those who have a good head for this subject. As a result, learning history does not have a tendency to become top priority for learners as it does not utterly provides students benefits for the future works. Secondly, it is clear that there is little resemblance between the past with present, an era of developing science and technology. Those fields have the demands on things which we can not adopt from what we learn in the History lessons. That is the reason why students in today societies do not pay much attention to this kind of subject. For instance, Apple – one of the biggest smartphone companies in the world. For a long period of time recruitment process, nobody can make sure that those employers with better understanding of History can possess more advantages against others.
On the other hand, a few merits are still associated with the students in spite of those disadvantages. History teaching us about the past can also be a various source of experiences for humans. It means that this subject would brings to learners a deeper understanding of the temporary world background and from that, severe consequences can be prevented. To illustrate, after many wars with the invaders, Vietnam has learnt many helpful methods so as to strengthen its internal safeguard. Besides, we will have appropriate handling strategies when facing dangers in the country.
In conclusion, although there are mixed opinions on determining whether or not History becomes a compulsory subject in the general educational programme, I believe that while this subject brings students a load of useful lessons, it fails to assist them in updating the present trends as well as enhancing their chances in future career paths.
