Some people believe that homework for young children is not essential and their free time should be spent on activities such as playing or socialising. From my perspetive, I completely disagree with this view due to their role in reinforcing learning and building responsibility for each students.
One compelling justification for my viewpoint is their role in reinforcing classroom learning. Children often forget new lesson quickly, and sometimes they cannot fully understand difficult new concepts at the time they learn. So, homework is an effective tool for teachers to strengthen their students’ knowledge. Moreover, homework encourages a sense of responsibility, which is a necessary trait for their future careers. Doing homework requires children to learn to manage their time effectively and complete tasks independently. Hence, it becomes evident that homework plays a crucial role in nurturing students’ traits for future.
Admittedly, some individuals argue that homework takes away time for play and socialising. However, doing homework does not necessarily prevent children from participating in social activities. This is because homework for children is usually short and is designed to reinforce knowledge after each lesson, so children can still play after finishing their homework tasks. Furthermore, the problem is excessive homework, not homework itself. Therefore, to maintain a balance between learning and other activities, teachers should assign a reasonable amount of homework that reinforces learning without overwhelming students.
In conclusion, I firmly disagree that homework plays a minor role in the education of young learners, as it plays an important role in reinforcing learning and helping children develop a sense of responsibility.
