From my perspective, individuals are becoming more independent of one another nowadays. In modern society, due to the inventions of artificial intelligence, more developed technology, and social media, which offers interaction without truly committing to it, people are tending not to rely on others as much as humans used to in the past.
Individuals have more chance to be treated equally and earn their own money in the present than in the last century. For instance, by having the rights to work and earn, women these days do not have to depend on gentlemen to stay away from financial burdens, or to live, dare I say. Similarly, the men in the modern world do not have social pressures to marry at a young age and provide for their families. Thus, people are becoming more independent.
On the other hand, we have to admit that humans are social creatures: people must create relationships and feel affection in some way in order to be mentally sane. Especially because of the time we spend on social media, mental health problems such as FOMO and ADHD are becoming more common. The sufferers of these types of illnesses are very dependent on others.
In conclusion, individuals are becoming more independent of one another in modern society, thanks to human rights and developing technology. Despite the fact that this is not the case for everyone due to mental illnesses, the people who are not reliant on others are the majority, in my opinion.
