Opinions diverge on whether taxing more heavily on different areas of industry or if there are other measures can tackle the environmental problem. This essay will discuss both viewpoints before giving my perspective that the latter view is of more vital significance.
Many support the greater influence of heavier levy for two reasons. People have this opinion because highly taxed companies must cut back on production. As a result, the amount of toxic emission will be decreased significantly. Additionally, stricter tax policy may bar the domestic as well as foreign enterprises from investing in the country or even make them withdraw from the market leading to healthier atmosphere for people. However, this can damage the socio-economic growth as a whole.
Fortunately, collective effort from the legislators and society can effectively counter the pollution caused by industrial development apart from leaving a higher tax rate on the companies. The first solution should begin with the action of the authorities. This can be done by running a public promotion campaign to educate people how to protect our living environment which can result in increased resident’s awareness of the negative impacts of pollution on their well-being. Moreover, the citizens should also be encouraged to use less disposable products, which is one of the main culprits in exacerbating the environmental issue these days.
In conclusion, I am of the opinion that both views have their merits. On balance, however, I maintain that levying heavy tax on enterprises is still less influential in protecting the environment than educating people how to preserve our habitats.
