Animal testing is a global and continuous issue. While some people suggest that animal testing is an essential way to examine products, some critics argue that it is against animals’ rights. In my view, I believe sometimes there is no choice than animal testing to ensure drugs’ safety.
On the one hand, the opponents strongly claim that no creature on the earth should be sacrificed because of humans. In other words, all creatures are equally important, especially from the ecosystem point, which deserve to live. Humans should consider other ways to test their medicines and products. For instance, Ivroche, a famous cosmetic brand, has presented its products without animal test and not only highlighted this feature as its statement but also many customers have been encouraged to purchase from this brand. Moreover, some NGOs have been established to protect animals’ rights.
On the other hand, proponents discuss that there is no doubt that humans’ lives are more important than others and it is necessary to use animals for scientific advancement. In some cases, there is no other option. Animals are the most similar creatures to humans which can be a proper option to examine the possible dangers of medicines or other products. Although it is better to strive that animals experience pain less, testing on animals is far better than human mortality or detrimental consequences for them. Without sacrificing, science cannot progress. For example, how scientist can determine the problems of a newly produced vaccine?!
In conclusion, while there is an ongoing debate about animals’ rights and their role in testing drugs, I believe science should try to find another alternative for its tests, however until that time, they should use animals with a lot of care and not suffer them as much as possible.
