Family house and school are two places, where a young human being spends majority of his or her time. Consequently, most people would agree that they in large part determine what social member the child will eventually become. The disagreement, however, are articulated regarding the primal responsibility of these institutions.
On the one hand, parents are commonly perceived as duty-bearers in all affairs concerning the child, which stems from the ancient tradition of blood _. During child’s first years, even before it goes to school, important knowledge ablout right, wrong, polite and impolite start developping according to the learning experience of the child, that its family provides. Therefore, by school age, a child may already have a set of socially unfavorable characteristics that are not easy to be fixed by the school. Secondly, despite the undoubtably massive social impact the school has, it remains first and foremost an educational institution, whose arm is to give knowledge and skills. This is why in school students are assessed based on what they know and how they use their knowledge, while social dynamics remains of secondary importance. Eventually, school is only a period of child’s life, aimed at equipping a person with skills that would be difficult to achieve othervise.
On the other hand, school is a first platform of the “real world” simulation that a family cannot produce, and its environment can affect a young a vulnerable child in a way that is beyond parental control. One should keep in mind that a school aged child, even from a great family, still lacks social skills. School is a place where children with different backgrounds and preferences coexist, which ipso facto brings about competition, friendship, rivalry — all kinds of social interactions. The way in which these interactions are managed by those more experienced and mature than them will affect a child’s responces, coping mechanisms and set of beliefs about people. Moreover, an evironment at school may sometimes be too difficult for a child to manage, with rates booling, teem suicide and gender-based violences at school raising. Therefore, by the mare fact that our society is organized in this way, parents are not always capable to recognize and resolve harmful behavioral patterns.
Taking the aforementioned into account, I believe that while parents hold the main responsibility of the child, the role of school can either make or break their efforts to raise a great member of society.
