In contemporary society, the internet rapid growth has resulted in the pervasive presence of it in every dimension of people lives. While some believe that this will enhance the social difference between poor and rich individuals, other support that internet can be a tool to minimize this gap. This essay will explore both views along with my opinion linked to them.

Although the inherent advantages of this phenomenon, some advocate that the use of the web will support privileged people to become richer and, conversely, underprivileged people to be poorer. To my mind, I disagree with this view. However, some substantial motivations can be raised on this matter. Notably, the intensification of the accessible resources from the richest that are far more capable to leverage the combination between their monetary funds and the smart use of the internet. For instance, they would be able to invest more money in more profitable funds that only upper classes would have access to. In addition to all this, rich people would manipulate with their funds, social media and other channels of communication to become more popular richer. Finally, I believe that this opinion is significant, albeit unreliable. Many other factors contribute more thoroughly to the economic gap between social classes, such as unfair salaries, expensive health insurances and overall, a lack of welfare services from governments.

Conversely, although the internet can be one of the causes of the difference between the rich and poor as supported by some, I believe that it can be a pillar in the elimination of this gap as it equally opens the same opportunities to everyone regardless of the country or the social class. This is because the World Wide Web offers the same information and the same opportunity to everyone, including investing in valuable projects, learning a new language, attending a master that is taught on the other side of the world. In short, everyone is interconnected, and each individual has the same opportunities as the others. Moreover, what I believe is crucial to reduce the culture of elitism, it is that talented people can work remotely and, consequently, people from poorer countries can be hired by international companies for higher salaries. Essentially, I believe that the internet can provide profitable opportunities for both the rich and the poor regardless of their social situations.

To conclude, despite I recognize that the internet can still implement some obstacles to fill the gap between people with more resources and with fewer ones. However, I support that the web can be a much powerful channel to overcome this issue and that more people can leverage its potentiality.
