In recent decades, crime rate has increased significantly and reached epidemic proportions worldwide, with a significant number of formal offenders breaking the law repeatedly. While it is true that some of the criminals may revert to a life of crime after being in a prison, it is critical that numerous ex-offenders do reform and change their behavior in a good way.
Admittedly, although culprits have been in prison several times a number of they might continue criminal behavior and break the law again, because of some reasons. Firstly, once they get into crime world and addicted to it, it will be challenging to them to leave that lifestyle. Committing crimes such as murdering or stealing become their hobby and habits, and if they do not do it, they may feel stressed and anxious. Secondly, even though criminals do not want to break the law consistently, lack of opportunities such as finding well-paid jobs, housing or money force them to reenter crime world.
Today, there are numerous programs that educate felons on new skills and restore their mental health. Governments are developing rehabilitation programs, to cure them, also reduce their chances of re-offending after release. For example, in Uzbekistan majority of prisoners are being taught and encouraged to work in factories to make them forget about their past and revert to society. Furthermore, it is possible that sometimes crimes are committed accidently or due to difficult situations such as poverty or addiction. Hence, it will be against humanity, if people continue to treat them like a serial killer. If those kind of situations such as poverty among people improve, crime rate may decrease.
In conclusion, there are some possibilities that ex-offenders can enter crime world again due to some reasons such as addiction or poverty, whereas because of rehabilitation and second chance, government can avert them into criminal lifestyle.
