Skills are acquired during academic years. Some people believe that schools should focus more on teaching practical skills, while others believe that traditional academic subjects are more important.
Learning practical skills is essential because it can contribute in a student’s future career, it can boost a person’s confidence when performing everyday tasks. Some examples of practical skills are: home skills such as cooking, communication skills, and digital literacy. Thus, mastering these skills could help discover their passion. Moreover, practical skills provide a sense of community, as people interact and learn from each other. These skills could help in their future careers through connections and building professional relationships. Therefore, there is a capability to improve in different levels.
On the other hand, others believe that schools should focus more on traditional academic subjects such as Math, Science, and English. These subjects present the basic and fundamental knowledge, providing a consistent learning curve as they are taught from elementary to college. With this, students develop productivity and the essence of time management. In addition to this, learning traditional academic subjects contributes to discovering their passion. Some students who love Science may become doctors someday, or some who love Math wants to be accountants in the future, giving them an opportunity to choose which path to take.
In conclusion, learning practical skills and traditional academic subjects provides different types of knowledge which can help students in their future careers. Therefore, in my opinion, schools should give equal importance to both.
