Band 6+: Some people believe that schools should only teach children subjects which are beneficial to their future career and therefore other subjects such as music and sports are not important. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Education has become an integral part of the modern world. Schoolchildren are suggested to learn the subjects that are affordable to their future life. That is, other entertaining ones, like studying music or sports, are not crucial. I disagree with this opinion for two reasons outlined below.

Admittedly, learning only beneficial subjects at school might be useful for children’s future lives because they do not spend their time on the subjects that are unnecessary for them.

However, other subjects art, music, or sports, for example, are also as important as core ones. That is to say, they can help to enhance children’s health, cognitive skills, and creativity. With the help of these valuable skills, children are able to tackle various problems easily, or they have an interest in creating something new that is not outperformed by others who learn limited subjects. Such as doing sports, is very crucial for children’s mental and physical health, so school authorities have to encourage their students’ engagement in this field as well as others. By doing so, they not only improve students’ healthy lifestyles, but they may also achieve a lot of success in this term. Besides, studying the same subjects every day may cause boredom in class; as a result lack of motivation and unwillingness to study might be determined among them. In this case, engaging in entertaining classes, including but not limited to music, can help to recharge them and improve their mood and attendance during the other lessons. In conclusion, although learning limited subjects without distractions helps children to achieve success easily in the future, subjects like music and sports make way for achieving the goal in an entertaining and healthy way. So, my personal view is that if it were not for those subjects, we would not have enhanced our health and cognitive skills, which also help us to gain knowledge in energizing ways.
