During the recent times there has been a sudden surge in the usage of social medial platforms due to the wide availability of internet services. While some people are of the opinion that this has a positive impact on the society, while others believe that it causes decreased real time communication and spreads misinformation. I will describe both perspectives before presenting my opinion.
On the one hand, social media has been an integral part of human lives. It provides us with news updates and world wide information at fingertips. Moreover, we can react and give our valuable opinions though comment sections and report system. For instance, firstly recently few singers gained fame through social media who were previously unknown, secondly police were able to arrest convicts in a hit and run case through social media post. Thus showing us that it has a certain powerful impact on the society.
On the other hand, few people in the society fear that social media spreads misinformation and reduces real life communication. As most of the social sites are unregulated, its become quite a task to differentiate between real and fake news. Unless, its from a trust worthy site its quite difficult to address this issue. Another reason people are against social media is due to the impact it has on communication. People tend to spend more time on social medial rather than with friends and family, thus causing rifts between relationships.
In conclusion, social media has a positive impact on the society through news and updates, while it also has lead to spreading of misinformation and decreased communication. I firmly believe that it that it has certainly lead to a better society, but we should be careful that it shouldnt break bonds and spread false information.
