Some individual believe that stricter punishments are the best way to reduce crime rates. However, I think that it is not the best method to decrease crime rates .This issue is not simply about increasing punishment but also involves many other elements such as education, social chances, fairness in the legal system, etc.
Basically, increasing penalties can create a deterrent effect, stopping those ideas to commit crimes. Even so, some studies have shown that the severity of punishments does not always have a cleary impact on crime rates. In my point of view, governments should pay attention on increasing educational system’s performance more than increasing penalties.
In addition, a focus on social opportunities has also been shown to have a positive effect on reducing crime rates. Providing education and vocational training as well as creating a stable and supportive social environment, can help prevent crime at its source. Preventing criminal at its source is also a way to prevent crime.
To sum up everything that has been stated so far, harder punishments could be a way to reduce crime rates. However, it would not be the best method to reduce crime rates. I hope that government would pay more attetion on other things than stricter punishment
