There has been much discussion revolving around the issue of whetherjob applicants’ social skills are more important than their academic qualifications . Some people assert that interpersonal skills play a vital role in many social aspects , whereas many others argue that academic qualifications are irreplaceable in modern world . Personally , I am in favor of the former view
The merits of outstanding socialskillsare apparent. Firstly, communication isthe key to career success in this day and age. This is mainly due to the fact that the 21st century is best characterized by constant interaction with different people, no matter the communication happens in person or online. Secondly, the ability to sell products or services is of paramount significance in any business, as only if the one has interpersonal skills, will his service appeal to clients. For example, an employee with excellent social skills is able to have an imprint in front of customers or clients; as a result, products or services can be perceived as high-value. Furthermore, employees with better socialskillsare generally more easy-going, which is very important to the workplace. Even if not each job requires cooperation, it does ramp up workers’ productivity which stems from supportive workplace created by communicative employees.
In contrast, some others may claim that academic qualificationsare the pre-requisite of employment. Apparently, many positions require certain qualifications, as the higher qualification the person has, the better rank he is likely to hold. However, in modern-day society, more and more employers have realized that whether employees can get the results that the business wants is more promising to predispose to a business’ flourishment. It can be seen that qualificationsfail to predominate over social skills in this regard.
In summary, I would concede that academic qualifications have some advantages. Despite that, social skills certainly support people in a much better way.
