Conventionally, exams are considered as a primary tool to assess students knowledge worldwide. While some learners claim that it is their own responsibility to choose how their skills should be tested, others believe that exams are the most proper form of fair assessment. Personally, I think that standardized exams are the most effective and reliable as students learn to cope with stress and time management while challenged by the course materials.
Some students prefer choosing exam format themselves as they may not be content with the exam instructions or simply be more comfortable with individual method. Indeed, all people are unique and adapt or learn at different speed. These people feel that it’s more fair to pass the exams according to their own pace, highlighting the need for implementing more than just standardized format. For some this could be useful, yet the majority has already got used to traditional assessments.
In contrast, others, myself included, consider this kind of exams as a fair way of checking the knowledge. They see it as something significant in the learning process due to the fact that standardized exams mostly cover course materials, ensuring justice when grading students. Since all of them study the same course and lectures, their skills and insights should be more or less equal, which altogether can be assessed by the standard exams. Additionally, learners adapt to implement acquired skills on practice and think critically when facing with limited time during the exam.
To sum up, while some think standardized tests are not the most useful, others including me claim that they are indispensable tool for learning progress for providing many handy skills.
