Nowdays, the question, which pathway is the most beneficial, in order to achieve a successful career is widely discussed. Some believe graduating from a university leads to a prosperous life, while others think that this is attainable by leaving school and gaining work experience. In my opinion it is possible to obtain success either way, however university graduates might be offered a wider range of opportunities.
On one hand, formal education provides a big overall knowledge and a solid foundation in a specific field of study, making the students professionals. On top of that, graduates from college or university might get better job offers and are able to earn higher starting salaries. Additionally, they will profit from perks and better growth opportunities throughout their career. I believe, even though university students spend a big chunk of their lives in an academic institution, they have a great chance for success by completing a degree.
However, working individuals gain far more hands-on experiences than a person in a classroom. They also sooner become financially independent and therefore learn how to manage their finances. Furthermore, people pursuing the professional pathway also get to learn about the complexity of the world and grow into being real world problem solvers. I think even though this pathway is not necessarily as big of a springboard into success, there are options of further education that help expanding the knowledge base.
Overall, sacrificing many years in an academic institution usually pays off and college and university graduates can start a rewarding career in their field of interest. Whereas for others, who left school and started work, more additional training is required, to move up a level. Some education systems even allow apprentices to complete a higher education later. From my perspective, either way has its merits and can lead to a successful career, it strongly depends on someone’s interests and how they want to pursue their education.
