In today’s world, most people think that teachers in high school are encouraged to give an ethical subject to distiguish right from wrong. However, others believe that they should focus more on academic subjects. In this essay, I will elaborate those perspectives and give my opinions.
First and foremost, teachers are encouraged to teach their students more about some ethical lessons, so the students will have a good manner and attitude when they grow up. This is because high school is the right place for youngsters to learn how to behave in public spaces. They spend much time during in high school, starting from 7.30 o’clock in the morning to around 2.00 or 3.00 pm. In addition, teachers will be able to monitor the students how they behave and even communicate in a good way. Therefore, most schools should provide some ethical subjects to their students.
Nevertheless, high schools should focus more on academic courses in terms of university requirements. Many colleges in most country require the new students to get a higher score in academic subjects, such as Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. As a result, learning on ethical courses is not worth anymore. To illustrate, a third-grade high school student who has a desire to enter the best university in his/her country. He/she is a nice person with good manner and attitude, but he/she has a low score in Mathematics which is one of the compulsory subject in the requirements. Unfortunately, he/she has to bury his/her dream to enter the university due to lack of mathematics score. Therefore, academic courses in high school are essential to be taught.
To sum up, the ethical subject is important to create a good manner student and high school teachers are encouraged to provide it. Nevertheless, in terms of university application, the subject is not worth to be learnt because the university does not require it and teachers should focus more on academic subjects.
