Life is a long journey in which people want to find happiness and prove their values. Some people take the view that people’s ability is clearly reflected by how much they can earn while others are of the opinion that we should base on other component to assess the real talents of a person. To begin with, the first view is rather justified on the following ground. The fact remains that people’s income is somehow the most common measurement of their success in the workplace since those who do better often earn more. The bottom line is that the ultimate goal of people when they take a job is to earn a living so as to raise their families and to save for rainy days.
Therefore, there is a sense among experts and people that people’s salary means the appreciation of their company to their contribution and most businesses as well as organizations base on work productivity to pay their staff. Thousands of surveys on a global scale back this idea, indicating that people in higher positions earn much more than those in less important positions. In the US, a lot of research gives substance to the argument that there is a strong correlation between people’s income and their education level. The more expertise and advanced skills people have, the more they can earn. Even in a football club, a striker like Messi with a strong reputation and impact earns far more than less well-know defender. A vast study in the US reveals that the majority of rich people have special talents and their competence is widely recognized by people. Nonetheless, this view is not always correct since wealth may come to people in different ways and some people are rich out of luck. Evidence shows that some do whatever it takes to get rich while some never aim at money as a goal in life.
With regard to the second view, this view is totally convincing. There is no doubt that there are some other less obvious values that form people’s worth. A compelling argument to support this idea is that some people have worked restlessly to contribute to their community and their worth comes from what they have done to others, not how much they can make. For some people, living is no about earning more and accumulating wealth or pursuing power, it is about making the world a better place for all. For instance, religious people may share one value that we all treasure-unconditional sacrifice for others without expecting anything in return. For instance, Mother Teresa of Calcutta did get world’s recognition and Nobel peace prize in 1979 although she spent most of her life serving and healing the poor, the aged, the sick and the unwanted. From another perspective, some people always work with passion, dedication, full commitment and love, but they do not get what they deserve, some artist even die long before their works came to light and got the recognition for their values. In some professions, people do contribute a lot to the human race with their serving in silence but their income is not high. Evidence in many countries like VN shows that the average of scientist, researcher and teachers are far lower than that of singers and footballers.
