In recent times, it has become increasingly common for young individuals to be attracted to electronic gadgets such as computers and mobile phones while engaging in serious tasks like writing and reading. I partially agree with this statement and believe that the government can take measures to address this issue in a timely manner.
Why are many youngsters dependent on electronic tools for fundamental literacy tasks? The advancement of high-speed internet and the ubiquity of electronic gadgets have created an environment that diminishes their attention spans. Many young people prefer short texts, posts, and messages, which makes it difficult for them to concentrate on long articles, books, or essays that are essential for developing long-term memory and focus on specific tasks. As a result, even completing these tasks on the first attempt may prove challenging. Given these circumstances, it is no surprise that distractions and multitasking are prevalent; notifications interrupt reading and writing processes, and multitasking lowers both concentration and accuracy when these tasks require full focus. Consequently, writing often becomes rushed and careless.
On the other hand, the use of technological devices has led young people to read more frequently. They often engage with articles on online blogs and websites where the latest information is readily available. Digital platforms encourage students’ daily reading habits, fostering a culture in which accessing global information is not problematic. Additionally, it is now much more convenient to obtain educational tools such as e-books, online dictionaries, learning apps, and writing platforms. These resources provide a wide range of concrete feedback and corrections compared to the days when young people primarily relied on traditional methods of learning, which involved cumbersome and heavy dictionaries that could be exhausting.
To sum up, modern technology itself is not the problem. If used responsibly and with an effort to maintain balance, along with proper guidance and educational use, it can significantly enhance both reading and writing skills.
