Many people concede that succeeding in sports merely requires fitness and strength, whereas others believe that mental attitude is the main factor that helps accomplish sporting achievements. In this essay, I will discuss this pressing issue from both points of view before presenting my own opinion on the matter.
On the one hand, supporters of the idea that fitness and strength are the primary focus for those who want to succeed in sports believe that these factors enable athletes to play such strenuous sports easily. Those who are in peak physical condition are not only able to enhance their productivity in competitions but their recovery when injured is also faster, which directly leads to a reduction in the risk of injury. Moreover, fitness and strength help athletes feel more confident and competitive when these factors bring them an advantage in gritty and demanding sports. They can believe in themselves and avoid committing mistakes.
On the other hand, some argue that mental attitude is more imperative in sports because it decides whether one really competes well or not. If athletes are motivated by people around them with many compliments on their efforts, they will totally strive to perform as well as possible to be proud of. There are still some pressures from them, and they are easily affected if they do not know how to control their emotions. It is believed that each individual offering words of encouragement to each other can bring more confidence and a good mental attitude somehow. Furthermore, each individual’s mental attitude definitely has an impact on the overall results. The results of the competitions will be good when individuals strive to keep a calm and cooperative attitude; the opposite is true for those who just think for themselves and lack teamwork.
In conclusion, I believe both sides have their merits. On balance, however, I think that I can completely agree with those who affirm that mental attitude helps succeeding in sports. A resolute, unwavering, and cohesive competitive spirit empowers athletes to surmount challenges and ascend to the pinnacle of success.
