It is growingly concerned that a sedentary lifestyle is becoming more prevalent, posing a threat to people’s health. Some people question whether the government should allocate more to sports to encourage an active lifestyle. This essay will examine both perspectives before presenting my viewpoint.
Opponents of this initiative may argue that the government should not spend too much national budget on sports since this factor cannot independently foster people’s lifestyle. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, it is of great necessity to combine a nutritious diet with regular physical activity. Therefore, if local authorities spend more on building public sports facilities or on sports competitions, this can just be a short-term strategy to encourage community participation. Without empowering citizens to change their eating habits and daily routines, the expenditures of the government on sports seem relatively ineffective and wasteful.
However, I still believe that it is conducive to funding more sports infrastructure. In the first phase, this strategy may be costly to develop a comprehensive sports system; however, it would become significantly cost-effective in the long term. This is because when citizens have equal access to public sports, they can engage in regular physical activity, which helps burn calories by playing sports and enhances mental resilience. Having a vigorous lifestyle would allow people to engage more actively in working, boosting productivity in jobs, and hence, fostering economic growth. For instance, the government in Singapore has expended its national budget on sports, encouraging people to take part in sports activities and tournaments outside working time. This helps to increase social cohesion, strengthen people’s wellness, and improve their living standards.
In conclusion, some people might argue that investing in sports is not an effective initiative. However, I contend that allocating more to sports facilities would go beyond improving people’s health. This would lay a firm foundation for them to build a healthier and active lifestyle, promoting efficiency in working and upgrading their quality of life in the long run.
