In today’s world, the development of technology has made using digital devices increasingly common among children. I believe that it is unhealthy for children to utilise digital devices at an early age in many aspects and govenments should make a policy to constrain the amount of time kids spend in front of digital screens.
One of the strongest arguments for limiting children’s screen time is that an early approach to internet world can negatively influence pupils’ mental health. Parents often give their own mobile phone which has no restrictions to unhealthy contents to chidren to play. In such cases, unappropriate information such as violence and sexual contents might pop-up on screen at anytime, which can be detrimental for children’s unmature mind. Furthermore, if children have their own social media accounts, they may face various type of danger by strangers and might develop competetive mindset with their peers at an early age. For example, there was a dangerous suicide game called “Blue Whale” which was popular on social media platform among young people in Russia few years ago. In there, the instructor of the game will force children to do dangerous actions which can be extremely dangerous to their lifes, by thereatining them constantly.
Another argument to support this policy is that spending excessive amount of time using digital devices can also negatively affect on children’s physical health. An excessive amount of screen time can lead to obesity due to insufficient physical activity and bad eyesight because of sitting overtime in front of screen at a young age. For instance, childhood obesity has become a major concern in many contries, due to the rapid development of online games. Meanwhile, many kids would get addicted to this bad habit, and choose sitting in front of screen for all day rather than playing outside, consequently lead to obesity and bad eyesight at an early age.
In conclusion, I completely agree that the government should make a policy to limit children’s screen time, considering it’s negative impact on both children’s mental and physical health.
