Some individuals claim that the primary duty of universities is to provide students with bright job prospects, yet others believe that there are other major benefits of gaining a higher education. This essay examines both perspectives before explaining why I believe universities should develop high-quality citizens.
On the one hand, one of the significant advantages of applying for a university is to be a competitive employee in a job market, with a high-paid salary and career prospects. Without any doubt, universities can provide these opportunities to get better jobs, as they hold an innovative education system and professional lecturers, which play a significant role in preparing qualified workforce. In addition, students can develop a strong network with their peers, which is highly important in their further career. The current president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev, can be a compelling example; the president often claims in his speeches about his university course mates, which helped him to form a successful career path as a politician, nowadays are working in strong positions of various ministries.
On the other hand, some people contend that the role of universities lies in building a welfare nation. It is hard to imagine a powerful country without education, healthcare, and military, yet other fields also contribute to the development of the country. If there were not universities, how the governments would shape an ideal country without skilled and qualified personnel. Therefore, universities play an essential role in a sustainability of thriving nations. The USA, for instance, is usually considered as the most powerful country in the world; and the statistics demonstrate another fact that top universities of the world are located in this country, which means that the outstanding growth of the USA is not a coincidence.
In my opinion, universities are a combination of a wide variety of purposes, and raising well-rounded citizens should stay at the top of list. From this perspective, universities should provide subjects not only in terms of specialities, but also other subjects that is a vital component of personal growht. For instance, in numerous eastern countries student learn history, literature, and even foreign languages so that to become a strong members of society.
In conclusion, although universities should provide students with excellent job opportunities, there are other benefits they can bring to society, such as providing qualified personnel and nurturing well-rounded citizens.
