Band 7+: Some people believe that the primary goal of science should be to improve the quality of life for humanity. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The main goal of science should be to work toward the betterment of the lives of humankind. Would I agree with this statement? I totally agree with this thought because there are multiple reasons, which I will discuss below.

In the present world, science should work for the improvement of the human lifestyle. There are a lot of reasons, but some of them we will discuss here. As we know, the population of the world is increasing continuously, but the main problem is that it is growing at double the speed than it was previously; on the other hand, resources have not been expanded according to the population increment. So that, if the percentage of people increases in such a way, then we have to face a lack of different resources, for instance, food, petrol, and many more. So that, science should work on how we can increase these materials and resources. For example, according to the census of 1998, the population of Pakistan was around 10 crores, although in the census of 2018 it was almost double, approximately 25 crores.

In the same way, science should focus on the public enhancement of living standards rather than spending too much time on military materials. Furthermore, it should work on medical research and try to create vaccinations for different diseases like AIDS and many more diseases. Day by day, health problems are increasing; how can we protect ourselves from them? For example, last year, 10 million people were affected by diabetes.

In conclusion, science must work on humankind’s improvement; for example, tackle the problems of population and health, and research how science can resolve these issues.

People often say that the public’s right to know about all crimes, however excessive reporting may create unnecessary fear.
