Nowadays, the arguments over side effects of illegal drugs and medications are overwhelming among people all over the world. Some people argue that the issues of unauthorized drugs can be resolved by legalizing all those drugs. From my own perspective, I strongly disagree with this thought.
There has been drastic number of criminal cases involving the malpractice usage of drugs, narcotics and other abused substances all over the world, especially in third-world countries. In order to remedy this situation, society has looked for a solution. But legalizing illegal drugs is not practical since the number of drug abusers will rise, especially among the young generation, if those harmful and addictive drugs like marijuana and morphine can be bought legally in local stores and pharmacies without prescription of a doctor.
In addition, these drugs are mainly controlled and distributed by the underground mobsters or mafia groups and allowing the official sale of those drugs will encourage them to come to light, even to try to manipulate the country’s politics and economy. In this case, the crime rate will definitely increase instead of solving the drug abuse problems. Instead of legalizing illegal substances, the government should launch a large campaign that educates people about the danger of using drugs without a prescription. Also, the authorities should limit the amount of antibiotics that can be bought in pharmacies so that it will not lead to an overdose of those drugs, which can be harmful to health, even may lead to death.
In conclusion, my opinion is that illegal narcotics and substances should not be legitimized, and the idea of legalizing all of them is just an impractical and unethical method that creates disorder in country’s economy and affects social lifestyles.
