While some people believe that the best way to evaluate a student’s skill is to conduct examinations, others argue that continuous assessment throughout the course is more influential. From my perspective, continuous assessment is more beneficial, if it is administered properly.
On the one hand, examination is an effective way to assess a student’s ability. First of all, it saves time, by assessing students’ knowledge all at once. This is because it combines all types of tasks that were studied for the whole course and all students take examinations at one time. For example, all universities across the world have an entrance examination, evaluating students academic performance at school. This result in assessing students’ skills learned for the whole course and providing equal opportunities to everyone.
On the other hand, others contend that continuous assessment is a better way to check students academic performance. First of all, it allows for a deeper understanding of the subject. If students have tests on each class, it provides a relentless practice and offer a better understanding of a subject even without revision. For example, some universities have multiple assessment throughout the course, leading to better materials memorising. I find this view more beneficial, because students tend to come prepared for classes, resulting in improving practical skills and productivity
In conclusion, although examinations play a crucial role, especially to check the acquisition of the skills for the whole course, I believe that continuous assessment throughout the course is more effective, because it offers the mastery of a subject.
