People’s views are divided regarding zoos: while some claim that zoos are not beneficial for animals living there and must be restricted, others believe that they are essential for conservation of animals, especially for endangered ones. I strongly support the second view.
A group of people can argue that zoos must be barred as they are cruel and improper. In their natural habitat, animals can feel more freely, hunt for food and behave naturally. However, in captivity, they often kept in limited space which affects them physically and mentally. For example, many wild animals can lose their natural instincts or grow more aggressive over time. In addition, there are some zoos which prefer profit to caring about wildlife fairly. This means that animals may not be treated properly, and living conditions may not match with their real needs.
Another group, including me, think that zoos play significant role for conservation purposes. This is because many zoos have their breeding programs, and the real mission of them is increasing their population. Another fact is that many animals on the brink of extinction because of wild nature and human activities. In this case, zoos protect them from poachers, can offer a safer environment. Furthermore, zoos can teach people about wildlife, and encourage them to take part in caring about animals.
In conclusion, while keeping animals in captivity can cause some problems, such as lack of freedom, I agree with those who believe that zoos are crucial since they protect endangered species and support conservation.
