There exists a common belief in contemporary society that the media platform has such negative impacts on modern world, leading to the resistance towards upcoming bring ideas. In my opinion, I wholeheartedly subscribe to this notion whose rationale will further be elaborated on in the following essay.
On the one hand, a lack of openness to new concepts is justified because personal prejudice lets individuals conform novel ideas not following social norms. The acquisition of new thoughts is base on personal perspective. Each one has specifics views upon one phenomenon which derive from their own way of thinking. As a result, despite being bombarded with positive sides of new beliefs, those may still ignore these thoughts and stand their ground. For example, some of previous generation may not tolerate with the acceptance of LGBT albeit there is widespread exposure to this trend among communities as social media provides new side for that.
On top of that, the media’s dominance in society results in a suppression of innovative ideas. Given that there is a large amount of uncensored information spreading rapidly online without any verifications when an unique notion is published, which misleads people to believe that new ideas would do harm to their well-being as well as society. Therefore, people are less likely to accept the concepts and tend to ignore them. Covid-19 pandemic fake news perfectly exemplify this. It was rumored that these vaccines would cause side effects on health of injected people. That resulted in loss of truth in science and doctors, preventing them from vaccination or postponing their immunization.
To recapitulate, it is undeniable that the media platform has hindered the acceptance for opening people’s mind to innovative ideas.
