This essay will demonstrate that fashion is a precise reflection of the modernity but also the reason for an irrational consumption. I agree that fashion is an option of art which provides a lot of pleasure to a wide auditorium.
On the one hand, fashion like other kinds of art reflects the trends in social development. In other words, fashion designers react on the events in political, economical and cultural life of society by creating unique style cloth collections, wich later penetrate into ordinary wear. For example, during World War II women’s fashion changed to become more masculine and more military style, including jumpsuits and trousers for women as a reaction of society to new challenges.
On the other hand, the phenomenon of fast fashion proves that fashion can be waste of money and vital resources. To be precise, fashion collections of ready-to-wear clothes are manufactured every year, and this definitely leads to overconsumption and vast amount of unsold clothes, wich later should be recycled. For instance, fashion gigant H&M manufactures a new design of white T-shirt every year. The cotton fabric for these T-shirts is made from cotton plant which requires a lot of water for raising, but water is a non-renewable resource.
To conclude, fashion is a fascinating part of culture, and as a creative industry it deserves to be called a real art and historical reflection of society life, but at the same time fashion has negative sides when it comes to excessive production of cloth and loss of crucial natural and human resources.
