There is a hot debate over whether reducing the massive amount of the product packaging should be the responsibility of producers and retail shops or customers. Personally, I partly agree with both opinions, as this essay will discuss several reasons.
Examining one facet, I believe that companies do have a significant responsibility regarding their packaging. One reason for that is addressing the environmental concerns of global citizens. Some consumers do not have enough awareness or just a little about the potential downsides that the amount of packaging of goods has on the environment. Therefore, companies need to minimize the quantity of non-renewable packaging such as plastics while maximizing the use of environmentally friendly materials. For example, H&M, a renowned fashion brand, recently changed their bags that store clothes to a sustainable material, paper.
On the other hand, individuals are also responsible for this issue. By boycotting large brands in the world that continue using non-renewable packages, customers can put a pressure on them to change their practices. As a result, these companies will follow trends and model their behavior for many others. According to Dentsu International, 77% of consumers said that they only want to spend money on brands that practice green and sustainable strategies.
The environment plays a pivotal role in our daily lives; thus, decreasing the massive amount of packaging is an issue that needs collective efforts from both sides. Solving this problem not only helps nature but also enhances people’s attitudes towards their surroundings.
