Nowadays, many people are of the opinion that instead of education, free time activities for the young should be the main area of focus for the authorities. Personally, I believe that both education and entertainment are equally important for the youth and the government should allocate the equal amount of money, instead of prioritizing one over another.
On the one hand, it is obvious that education has always been the key to success of societies. Historically, people often tried to develop their countries and communities, and in order to achieve that they almost always paid close attention to the education of young generations. As young individuals are people of tomorrow, many governments channel the state money to the sector of education, which can bring long-lasting benefits in the long run. By contrast, if the authorities divert the funds away from education, it can lead to societal illiteracy, which might significantly slow down the development of countries. Therefore, some people claim that education should always be prioritized.
On the other hand, critics posit that leisure activities should receive more funds. They claim that focusing solely on education and learning might lead to several problems in the long run, especially mental and physical ones. For example, if students study an array of subjects simultaneously at school or university without doing any physical activities, they might suffer from exhaustion, which can eventually lead to mental burnout. Additionally, as young people are still in the phase of development, they should engage in daily physical exercises, otherwise they may experience obesity or many other problems associated with their body. If the authorities allocate more money into free time activities for the youth and encourage them to be more active, the potential issues can be effectively mitigated.
As for my own stance, as both education and social activities hold notable merits, I believe that the balanced approach would be the best option. If the government focuses solely on education, young people might suffer mentally and physically. Conversely, if the activities take precedence over education, it can take its toll on the whole community. Given these reasons, if the state money is channeled appropriately into both education and free time activities, it is more likely to bring unparalleled benefits. Hence, I hold the view that the authorities should invest in different sectors equally.
In conclusion, although people argue over the importance of education and social activities, I strongly believe that both of them carry the same weight. Thus, the balanced approach is the most practical and effective option, as it can bring not only well-informed future generations but also encourage young people to stay physically active.
