Some people argue that the government should be in charge of getting kids to education institutions, while others contend that parents should be responsible for this duty. In this essay, I will elaborate on opposing perspectives before presenting my reason to advocate the latter.
On the one hand, there are several benefits associated with transportation provided by the authorities. To clarify, government-run school buses can facilitate access to education by assisting students reach school safely regardless of their family’s circumstances or location. Therefore, children are more likely to attend school regularly, which directly improves their academic performance and reduces dropout rates. Furthermore, transportation offered by the state has the potential to diminish traffic congestion and air pollution by significantly decreasing the number of parents’ vehicles commuting on the road. For instance, in Florida, US, one school bus can replace 36 private cars during peak hours, contributing to smoother traffic flow.
On the other hand, parents should take primary responsibility for delivering their children to school. To be more specific, unlike fixed bus schedules, parents can freely adjust travel time according to their children’s daily routines, such as extracurricular activities or even unexpected delays. As a result, this flexibility can ease the pressure for both parents and students as they do not have to rush for buses punctually, ensuring that kids acquire adequate time for crucial meals. In addition, more than anyone else, parents are deeply concerned about their children’s safety and prefer to personally supervise them until they enter classes. Hence, pupils are greater protected by potential risks like kidnapping or bullying and feel secure at the beginning of the school day.
In conclusion, although transporting students to educational institutions by the government can promote equal learning opportunities and decrease traffic jams, I believe parents should still be in charge of this responsibility due to flexibility and emotional support.
