Band 6+: Some people say patriotism is the biggest cause of war. But others believe that when people are patriotic, they are more likely to take an interest in a country's day-to- day running and therefore less likely to allow unscrupulous politicians to drive a country to war. To what extent do you agree or disagree?.

Some people argued that patriotic feelings should be made the basis of the driving cause behind countless wars, but others said that residents would take several preventive measures to keep their countries from being involved in meaningless wars related to irresponsible politicians. From my personal perspective, I firmly agree with the second point of view and this essay will shed light on the rationales.

To begin with, the kind of people who still consider patriotism as an element culpable for wars as a whole. Notwithstanding, it can blind citizens to the faults of their own nation, enhancing their intrusive psychology about other countries in order to exacerbate international tensions. There is no doubt that North Korea which is operated by an obsolete value system of a whole society. Kim Jong-un still forced his citizens to express these patriotism via excessive feelings in events, to stage war provocations through boasting about the nuclear-system. Moreover, the president offered novel regulations and legislations through limiting import or export trade paths. This causes a narrow-mindedness of residents with global issues.

Conversely, patriotism can act as a weapon against the rise of less ethical politicians and the wars they might begin. A strong sense of national pride can foster unity and resilience, enabling citizens to stand against leaders who would manipulate national sentiment for wrong purposes. Such in historic events in Vietnam patriotism is always expressed clearly and reliant on solidarity in harsh conditions such as resisting the Mongol invaders which are one of the most feared in the world just by Vietnamese unity. In this context, patriotism serves not as a spark for conflict but as a force for collective action against threats to national integrity and global stability, especially in the prosperity of any country.

In conclusion, patriotism has both positive and negative purposes depending on each situation. If embracing its merits, it could help society even deter wars. This underscores the nuanced potential of patriotism to either provoke war or consolidate national unity against threats.
